Just as the Technics (see later) was eye-catching in turntables, we spotted the much anticipated Nagra HD Preamp as part of the room by their Japanese distributor.

So far, this preamp has only been shown through teaser pictures revealing an enticing corner of two of the beautiful aluminium casework so it was good to see in the flesh.

Various sources, including a saucy Nagra IV-S reel-to-reel, were feeding a HD Preamp and onto HD Amp monoblock power amplifiers, driving some enormous Avalon Saga speakers.

The Avalons were in their trademark, tessellated, stealth-fighter shape, softened by being in a beautiful light wood finish.

We didn’t have much of a chance for a proper listen but the few jazz tracks we heard sounded warm, inviting and very musical. Definitely one to come back to…
